Toonami Wiki

Toonami Fan Art in the broad sense refers to any type of art medium created by fans of Toonami, including the series and movies aired on the block. However, this page refers mostly to the broadcast segment through which the curated fan submitted art and included it in 30-60 second segments/bumpers. Additionally, it refers to the fan submitted art that the Toonami staff have posted on toonami.com or the official Toonami Facebook page throughout its history.

History[]

From 1999 to 2001, Cartoon Network's Toonami aired a monthly-ish segment in which hand-drawn fan art was shown with clips of audio from Toonami shows in the background. The names of the artists were also featured along with their art. Unfortunately after the Anthrax mailing scare in 2001, the Toonami Staff weren't allowed to accept anymore fan art submissions so the segment ceased. During each segment, TOM would give William Street's mailing address and advise fans against tracing and light pencil drawings, if they were intending to send something in.

In May of 2000, when Toonami.com launched, several pieces of fan art were also posted on Toonami.com in a section titled "Toonami Art Blowup."[2]

On September 4, 2015, Toonami began posting fan art on their official Facebook page every Friday (titled Fan Art Friday).

During Adult Swim's Toonami broadcast on Saturday, December 10, 2022, the on-air Toonami Fan Art segment returned with TOM 6 and SARA v4 presenting fan art in the classic Cartoon Network's Toonami style with audio clips from Toonami shows and credits to the artists. It was announced that the segment would once again occur monthly with images submitted to toonamifanart@gmail.com.

However, after the January 7, 2023 broadcast, which saw the second installment of the segment air, the Toonami staff immediately cancelled the segment due to copyright issues. Unfortunately a falsely-submitted piece of art made it onto the air. Toonami co-creator Jason DeMarco addressed the issue: "So I guess the Toonami Fan Art submissions piece we aired last night had a person's art in it that was a piece that lives behind a paywall. Someone sent it to us under a false name as a "fan." We've pulled it off of the Toonami FaceBook and asked YouTube to pull it down as well.[1]
